Day 2

Subject: What type of business are you going to start, [firstname]?

Hi [firstname],

There are many different types of online business you can start, and I want to talk about some of them in today's installment. The exact type of business you start is largely going to depend on what “niche” you market to (more about that tomorrow) and what your skills and interests are.

Probably the simplest type of online business to start is a monetized blog. Here, you simply write about stuff that's going to appeal to your target audience. Your blog can be about anything – although “lifestyle” blogs seem to be very popular at the moment.

You make money by selling advertising on your blog. This can be via Google Ads, or banner ads. Every time somebody clicks on the ad, you get paid. You don't get paid very much, but over time this can add up. You can also write endorsements for products you sell as an affiliate. In this scenario, you explain the benefits of a product or service to your readers and encourage them to purchase it via a special link. When they do, you get paid a commission by the vendor. Affiliate marketing like this can be very lucrative, with some rates of commission as high as 100%.

Similar to a blog is a video blog or “vlog”. As the name would suggest, this involves making videos. You just talk to camera about whatever the subject of your vlog is, and then upload the footage to video sites like YouTube. Some of the most popular vloggers get paid megga money by brands to endorse their products – although it does take a while to become established.

If you're the creative type, you can make your own digital products – e-books, videos, apps etc. and sell them via a shopping cart website.

Then there's dropshipping. Here, you sell a physical product but get paid upfront before you buy it from the wholesaler. You can sell on your own site or on eBay.

Warmly,

[Your Name]
